FAREWELL SHEILA JORDAN
FAREWELL SHEILA JORDAN (November 18, 1928 – August 11, 2025)
Called “The Lady with the Million Dollar Ears” by Charlie Parker, Jordan was a bebop vocalist who pioneered the voice-and-bass duo format, inspired by an early experience sitting in with Charles Mingus and Lee Konitz. The three had initially met while studying with pianist and composer Lennie Tristano in the early 1950s. Jordan saluted Mingus in 1997 by recording the bassist’s most famous composition, “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat,” for her album I’ve Grown Accustomed to the Bass with Cameron Brown.
