The Mingus Big Band is an avatar of the fierce jazz giant, Charles Mingus, now celebrating his 100th birthday year. Guided by his widow Sue Mingus, a 2023 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, the Mingus Big Band has played weekly at New York City venues since 1991, earning six GRAMMY nominations and a 2011 GRAMMY award.

Charles Mingus was known for the energy and life in his music. “Better Get It In Your Soul” echoed church meetings; “Fables Of Faubus” protested segregation; “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat” evoked legendary saxophonist Lester Young. Mingus composed over 300 musical scores and is among the most played jazz composers in history.

They say jazz washes away the dust of everyday life. Composed of stalwarts of the New York jazz scene, the Mingus Big Band will clean and press your clothes and send you out the door with new energy.
