This year’s Festival will be a virtual conference celebrating the musical legacy of Great American Composer Charles Mingus!

In light of a precarious time we are bringing the experience of Mingus Music and New York City to you. Festival weekend will feature online workshops, Mingus special events, and a public broadcast showcasing performances of Mingus Music.

Categories for ensembles include combo, virtual combo, big band, and virtual big band.

New! Individuals can participate directly with entries for solos, arranging, contrafact composition, contrafact transcription, performance transcription, and lyric writing. (All entries must be based on the music of Charles Mingus.)

The festival will feature online workshops, Mingus special events, and a public broadcast showcasing performances of Mingus Music. Traditionally Mingus Festival is focused on musicians ages 13-18; this year only we also welcome non-high school submissions on a limited basis.
